Sudan’s Capital Hit by RSF Drone Strikes, Major Power Outages in Omdurman
At least three sites across Khartoum were hit by suicide drones launched by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Tuesday, causing widespread blackouts in Omdurman, witnesses and journalists reported.
Drone attacks targeted the Wadi Seidna military zone and the Al-Markhiyat electricity substation, disrupting power for millions of residents. Video footage circulating online showed fire and smoke from damaged electrical transformers, confirming the scale of the strike.
Other areas affected included Al-Kalakla, near the Yarmouk military factory, and Al-Jaili, north of Khartoum Bahri, the location of Sudan’s main oil refinery previously held by the RSF until January.
The strikes come amid ongoing efforts by the Sudanese government to stabilize the capital, with authorities planning to reopen Khartoum International Airport and strengthen anti-aircraft defences to safeguard critical infrastructure.
This attack mirrors a previous RSF drone strike in May that disrupted electricity supply in Omdurman. It also follows renewed army offensives in the Kordofan region, where government forces are working to retake key towns and break the siege of El Fasher in North Darfur.
