RSF Drone Attack Targets Sudan Shield Forces Event in Tumbul
At least three people were killed and 10 others injured on Wednesday after a suspected Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drone strike hit a military celebration in Tumbul, eastern Al Jazirah state, according to local officials and eyewitnesses.
The strike targeted a gathering organized by the Sudan Shield Forces, a group allied with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), marking the army’s 71st anniversary. Among those attending were the group’s commander Abu Aqla Kaikal, senior SAF officers, and members of the Popular Resistance.
Eyewitnesses reported that a suicide drone crashed between Al-Shorouq School and Al-Inaya Medical Clinic, killing civilians, including students.
A spokesman for the Sudan Shield Forces condemned the “vile attack” by what he called the “Dagalo militia,” confirming that children were among the victims.
In a video statement, Commander Kaikal described the incident as the “last gasps of a dying beast” and vowed stronger retaliation. He announced that reserve troops from the parade would be immediately deployed to Kordofan, where they aim to help break the siege of El Fasher.
The Sudan Shield Forces, once aligned with the RSF, defected in October 2024 to join the army. Their defection played a key role in enabling the SAF and allies to recapture Al Jazirah and Khartoum states from the paramilitary group.
Video footage from the scene showed soldiers firing at the drone with makeshift weapons mounted on a donkey cart (“caro”).
This latest attack follows a May 2025 drone strike on a Sudan Shield camp in Butana, which killed 13 people, including seven soldiers.
