Torit Imposes Night Curfew After Deadly Attack

Authorities in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State, have announced a night-time curfew after a deadly attack that killed Deputy Police Inspector Captain John Kamilo. Governor Louis Lobong said the curfew, which begins daily at 6 PM, is necessary to address rising security threats.

The government accuses opposition forces of carrying out Tuesday’s attack, though the SPLA-IO disputes this claim, saying instead that 10 government personnel were killed. Neither account has been independently confirmed.

Governor Lobong warned residents to remain indoors after 6 PM, except in emergencies such as medical cases, adding that security forces would be patrolling throughout the night. Travellers arriving late are instructed to stay at the bus park until morning.

Civil society representatives have endorsed the curfew, with Peace Link Foundation director Ukullu Charles calling it a timely and responsible move to safeguard the public. The curfew will remain in effect until authorities declare the situation stable.
