Sudanese Army Pushes Toward Wad Madani

Sudanese Army Targets RSF in Al-Haj Abdallah to Retake Wad Madani

The Sudanese army has stepped up its offensive against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Al-Haj Abdallah, with the aim of regaining control of Wad Madani, the capital of Al Jazirah state, military sources confirmed on Wednesday.

Army airstrikes destroyed a key bridge along an irrigation canal that supplies the Al Jazirah agricultural project, one of Sudan’s largest farming hubs. “The strike created a significant gap in the western canal bridge, boxing the RSF between the canals and the Blue Nile,” a military source told Sudan Tribune.

The army now holds crucial bridges, including Bridge 57, Bridge 39, and Bridge 77, restricting RSF movement and supply routes. Ground forces have also advanced south of Al-Haj Abdallah, controlling Maziqila, Al-Daniqila, and Dafa Allah villages, while RSF units remain concentrated in Saqra to the east and Al-Shakaba Al-Noor to the north.

Securing Al-Haj Abdallah and Al-Shakaba Al-Noor would bring the army within 20 kilometers of Wad Madani, a city already under siege from both the east and west.

Separately, the air force launched strikes on RSF positions in Al-Shabarqa and Al-Sharif Yaqoub, targeting their strongholds hidden in mango orchards.

Although senior army officials have signaled preparations for a large-scale operation in Al-Jazirah state, the expected offensive has yet to fully unfold, raising speculation about internal delays.

The RSF seized Wad Madani in December 2024 and has since expanded southward into Sennar state, consolidating its grip on central Sudan.
