Sudan Army Clashes Intensify with RSF in North Kordofan

Fierce Fighting Between Sudanese Army and RSF Escalates in North Kordofan

Intense military confrontations continued in North Kordofan state on Sunday as the Sudanese army clashed with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a bid to regain strategic territory.

For over a week, the army has stepped up operations across south, north, and west Kordofan, aiming to push towards Darfur and break the prolonged siege on El Fasher, a key garrison city. The RSF, meanwhile, is determined to halt the army’s advance and maintain control of critical locations.

Local sources reported that fierce battles erupted early Sunday morning along the Omdurman-Bara export road, near the RSF-held town of Jabra al-Sheikh. The Sudanese army is seeking to secure the entire export route, linking Omdurman with Bara, while RSF forces continue to hold strategic positions in Jabra al-Sheikh, Umm Qirfa, and Rahid al-Nuba.

On September 11, the army recaptured Bara city, previously under RSF control since the early months of the conflict. Meanwhile, on the western front of El Obeid, artillery from the 5th Infantry Division shelled RSF concentrations in the al-Ayyara area, approximately 15 km from the state capital. Simultaneously, army warplanes targeted RSF positions in Al-Hammadi and Al-Dubaibat.

RSF forces had advanced near El Obeid on Saturday after capturing al-Ayyara, temporarily pushing the army to the outskirts of the capital. Heavy clashes in Area 13 were reported before the army successfully repelled the RSF assault.

The ongoing conflict in North Kordofan underscores the strategic importance of the region as a link between Khartoum and Darfur, with both sides vying for control over supply routes and key towns.
