Sudan Conflict: Suspected RSF Drones Strike Ed-Damazin for First Time
Residents of Ed-Damazin, the capital of Sudan’s Blue Nile state, reported on Thursday that suspected Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drones attacked both civilian and military sites, marking the first drone assault on the city since the war erupted.
Witnesses told Sudan Tribune that the army’s anti-aircraft units engaged a swarm of drones, reportedly shooting down five near the 4th Infantry Division headquarters, an Armoured Corps base, and the city’s airport. Explosions and smoke were seen across Ed-Damazin, though there were no immediate reports of civilian casualties.
The incident reflects the RSF’s growing reliance on drones to strike deep into army-held territory. Similar drone attacks have recently hit Gedaref, River Nile, and Northern states, damaging infrastructure, including power stations.
Ed-Damazin remains firmly under Sudanese army control, while the RSF maintains positions in western Blue Nile. Its ally, the SPLM-N (al-Hilu faction), also holds areas bordering South Sudan, further complicating the region’s security landscape.
