Armed Raid in Manyabol Leaves Three Dead, Livestock Stolen

Three people have been killed and 17 others, including women and children, abducted following an armed raid in Manyabol payam of Gumuruk County, authorities in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area said Thursday.

According to Information Minister Jacob Werchum Jouk, the attack took place Wednesday afternoon and was allegedly carried out by armed youth from neighboring Jonglei State. In addition to the casualties, four people were wounded and more than 375 cattle were taken.

Jouk condemned the assault and called on Jonglei authorities to pursue those responsible, secure the release of abductees, and return the stolen animals.

In Jonglei, Information Minister Nyamar Lony Thichiot confirmed that state officials had been alerted to the incident and had dispatched a team to investigate.

She said the acting governor had been briefed and promised further updates once the investigative team completes its work.

The greater Jonglei region has long been plagued by cattle raiding and child abductions, with periodic outbreaks of inter-communal violence despite ongoing peace and security interventions.
