Burhan Calls for Arab-Islamic Unity After Deadly Israeli Strike in Qatar
Sudanese leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Monday condemned Israel’s recent strike in Doha as an act of “overt aggression” and urged Arab and Islamic nations to adopt a united stance in response.
The comments came during an extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit convened after an Israeli missile attack last Tuesday evening struck a residential building in Doha. The building reportedly housed senior Hamas political leaders, and the strike killed several people, including a Qatari security officer, according to Qatar’s government.
Qatar condemned the attack as “state terrorism” and a violation of its sovereignty, sparking international outcry. The United Nations Security Council convened an emergency session, with UN officials warning that the incident risked escalating into a broader regional conflict.
In his speech, Burhan said the attack undermined international law and peace efforts in Gaza, describing it as a message of disregard for global norms. “If unchecked, such actions could encourage further excesses,” he cautioned.
The Sudanese leader expressed “full support—leadership, government, and people—for Qatar,” while commending Doha for its long-standing support of the Palestinian struggle. He reaffirmed Sudan’s position that an independent Palestinian state is the only route to a lasting peace settlement.
Burhan, who heads Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, emphasized that a united Arab-Islamic position remains the most effective way to influence global opinion, strengthen diplomacy, and uphold international law.
