UN Warns of Escalating Violence in Sudan’s Kordofan Region

The United Nations has raised alarm over a sharp escalation of violence in Sudan’s Kordofan region, warning that civilians are paying a heavy price as fighting intensifies.

Speaking to reporters in New York, Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said recent clashes have killed and injured civilians while destroying homes, hospitals, and other key infrastructure.

Dujarric noted that confrontations between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have intensified in South Kordofan in recent days, further placing communities at risk.

Humanitarian organizations have also reported disruptions on important supply routes leading into the city of Dilling.

The UN said a drone strike earlier this week hit Dilling General Hospital, killing at least four patients and injuring several civilians.

“Hospitals and health centers must never be targeted,” Dujarric stressed.

Violence has also escalated in the town of Kadugli, creating a volatile security environment for both civilians and humanitarian workers.

Meanwhile, the city of El Obeid has faced multiple drone attacks over the past five days, including strikes on a hospital and government facilities.

The UN warned that continued attacks are threatening critical infrastructure and supply routes, including the road linking Kosti and El Obeid — a key corridor for humanitarian and commercial supplies.

Dujarric urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilians, and allow safe humanitarian access to affected areas.
