Drone Strike Halts Oil Production in Sudan and South Sudan

Oil production and exports in parts of Sudan and South Sudan have been suspended following a deadly drone strike on one of Sudan’s most critical oil facilities, according to company statements and eyewitness accounts.

The attack—carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—hit the central processing facility at the Heglig Oil Field on Thursday, killing several oil workers and triggering an emergency shutdown of operations.
Petrolines for Crude Oil Co. Ltd (PETCO) confirmed that an unmanned drone launched three missiles targeting the field’s maintenance workshop and laboratory. The company has since declared force majeure, citing extraordinary security conditions that prevent it from meeting contractual obligations.
