PM Idris Condemns ‘International Silence’ as El Fasher Residents Face Starvation

El Fasher – Sudan’s Prime Minister Kamil Idris has accused the international community of failing to act on the RSF siege of El Fasher, where tens of thousands of residents remain trapped without food, medicine, or aid.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have surrounded the North Darfur capital since April 2024, blocking relief supplies and destroying critical infrastructure. Witnesses report families eating animal fodder to survive, while victims of recent shelling are being buried in plastic bags due to a shortage of shrouds.

Idris said he is in direct contact with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to mobilize support to end the blockade. “The most critical issue I will raise is breaking this siege,” he said. “We pledge to do everything in our power to break the siege on El Fasher, which will happen soon.”

The RSF is accused of committing widespread atrocities, including ethnic violence, sexual assault, and the destruction of water and health facilities.

Humanitarian groups have repeatedly warned that the situation in El Fasher could spiral into mass famine if urgent international intervention is not secured.
